Senate

Appropriations - Official Website

The Appropriations Committee, through the work of its 12 subcommittees, makes recommendations to Congress on how much money to allocate each year to specific programs. The Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services and Education oversees funding for Head Start, the Child Care and Development Block Grant, the 21st Century Community Learning Centers, the Social Services Block Grant, and other early childhood development, education, and child abuse prevention programs. The Commerce, Justice, Science Subcommittee oversees funding for the Juvenile Acountability Block grant, the Title V Delinquency Prevention Grant and other juvenile delinquency prevention and intervention programs.

Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) - Official Website

The HELP Committee handles most authorizing legislation dealing with education and social services programs, including after-school programs, Head Start and child care. These issues are also overseen by the Subcommittee on Children and Families.
